Q. Do I need to complete Section 4 / give parents details to change my details on a passport?

Yes, Section 4 must be fully completed. If both parents were born outside the UK you will additionally need to provide a letter dated and addressed to the Passport Office giving the same information as per Section 4, for both sets of grandparents.

Q. What do I do if I don't have access to / do not know parent's detail?

Q. My parents were not born in the UK - do I still have to fill in section 4 of the application form?

Yes, the section must be completed (excluding passport numbers). Additionally, the applicant must provide a letter dated and addressed to the Passport Office giving the same information as per Section 4, for both sets of grandparents.

Q. One/both of my parents are deceased, therefore cannot complete section 4 fully. What do I do about this?

Please complete as much information on Section 4. If information is missing please explain the reasons (e.g. parents deceased) on Section 8. If the space on Section 8 does not suffice you can include a letter dated and addressed to the passport office stating the reason you do not know the information in question

Q. What will be the validity of my new passport?

Your new passport will be valid for 10 years from the day of issue. If you are renewing a non-fully expired passport, up to 9 months can be added on the full validity of the new passport (10 years and 9 months).
