Documents You Must Send with Your First Adult Passport

Applying for a First Adult passport can be a trying and lengthy process, but one can reduce the length of time spent waiting and reduce the stress by either making sure all of the documents that must be sent are in order and ready for review or by simply using a pre-check service.

First Adult Passport Requirements

Source: Wikipedia

Necessary Documents

Depending on the date of birth of the applicant, the requirement for documents may change. A major requirement is that any sent documents must be originals, not photocopies and not certified copies. If date of birth is before (not on) the 1st January 1983, then only a birth or adoption certificate is required. If date of birth is on or after the 1st January 1983, then there is a choice of documents to send. A UK citizen is required to send a parent’s birth certificate, with a Home Office certificate of registration or naturalisation, and either a British passport belonging to one parent that was valid on the date of birth, or a parent’s British passport number (the application form contains instructions for where to write this).

In addition to this, a passport application must be acquired, either online (one will be mailed to you once you apply), from a Post Office that offers the appropriate service, or by ordering one from the Passport Adviceline. With the application, there must be two photos of the applicant included, the photos must follow the rules about passport photos. A countersignatory (someone who signs your application and one photo as a declaration) is only required if it is a first adult passport, a replacement, a renewal for a child aged 11 or under or if the applicant’s physical appearance has changed greatly since the previous application.

The UK passport certification process can take some time, at least 3 weeks is to be expected if you do not use the services for urgent delivery. Be aware that, there is also a 30-minute interview process after documents are sent off where you will be asked questions to verify your identity.

Passport Renewal

The most standard interaction with HM’s Passport Office is to request a renewal of a passport. For an adult, you only have to follow the standard steps for the renewal (send documents and application form) and ensure that if you meet any criteria for a countersignatory then to obtain one. For a child’s application for renewal, the standard application form must again be filled in, there are no extra requirements beyond what is already outlined.

Same Day and Urgent Passports

If there is a rush to travel away then a speedy passport delivery can be requested, the requirements for this is that an appointment must be booked with HM’s Passport Office (formerly Identity and Passport Service), this appointment can be up to 3 weeks from the day of booking after which you need to order either a Premium or Fast-Track application. To use these, you must bring all necessary documents with you, and there is a fee for either service. Premium guarantees the passport within 4 hours, while Fast-Track guarantees it within 1 week.

Please note that the Premium service is unavailable for replacing a lost adult or child passport, and is unavailable for a child’s first passport.

As long as the rules described here are followed, then the UK passport certification experiences should be stress and trouble-free.

The overview of this article is basically to present to visitors that one can easily hold 2 UK passports concurrently, allowing them travel simultaneously going forward. It is really important to understand what the benefits are, mainly after understanding the main reasons why you would need one, including travelling to conflicting countries, high frequency travel, or working between locations.

Anyone can hold an concurrent UK passport if it is justified for business needs. Our requirements as per our webpage: gives you the full requirements, and how to go about getting the concurrent Passport.

Once you have read the information below, and also our requirements, if you wish to get more information, please email or call us.

With businesses increasingly looking at building global enterprises and conquering new markets, employees travelling to various countries has become the need of the hour. The improving economy worldwide has further allowed companies to set substantially large travel budgets for their employees as well.

According to the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), global business travel spend reached an all-time high of a total of US$1.2 trillion in 2015. The GBTA also forecasted that at this pace, the spend on global business travel would touch US$1.6 trillion by 2020.

Rise of Business Travellers in the UK

With business travel spend rising by 30% to £5.82 billion in 2016, UK travellers have established themselves as true and frequent business travellers. The significant increase in the number of application for a second UK passport only gives testament to this fact.

Second UK Passport

Eurostar, the high-speed railway service connecting London with Brussels, Avignon, Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Paris, accepted having benefitted from the rise in the number in UK business travellers, a figure that witnessed a 9% increase in the first quarter of 2017, as compared to the previous year. This, in turn, led to a rise in the railway service’s sales revenue by 15% to £232 million during the same period, according to Buying Business Travel, a leading publication in the UK for buyers and arrangers of travel and meetings.

Brits who frequently travel for work are arming themselves with not just one but two UK passports, also known as “concurrent passports” at the same time. However, they are not opting for a second passport by choice.

What is a Second UK Passport?

Don’t confuse a second UK passport with a duplicate one. A second passport is treated as a standalone, valid for 10 years from the date of issue. The second passport is completely separate from the original one and has a unique passport number and expiry date. Even the photo used in the second passport is different from the one used in the first passport.

Those travelling frequently for work to different destinations across the globe are required to apply for multiple visas. In most situations, to get a new visa issued in an embassy, the passport is submitted and held for some period of time. This ends up obstructing or delaying their travel to other countries in the meantime.

In other situations, UK-based professionals need to travel to “incompatible countries” that conflict with one another. Seeing one’s stamp on the passport, the other refuses to issue or delays the visa for the traveller. Here again, a second UK passport can be a saviour.

Second UK Passport: Application Process

The interested traveller needs to submit a second UK passport application form to Her Majesty’s Passport Office. During application, the need for a second passport needs to be made completely clear. It is useful to know that the officials at the passport office do not believe leisure travel to be a good enough reason for the issue of a second passport. Her Majesty’s Passport Office will require a letter from the employer to support the application for a second passport, stating the reasons for the application.

To spare one of any hassles, it is best to contact a specialised passport agency that is authorised to submit such applications on behalf of the applicant to Her Majesty’s Passport Office, without the need to book any appointments. What’s more, the British passport will be delivered within a week, helping the UK-based business traveller keep up with their travel plans.

Type and color of business attire for men (depends on the number of days you are going to be travelling):

  • Suits – Grey and darker blues are the safest ones to go for, as they leave very little room for error.
  • Jacket/Blazer – Try going for a darker colors in medium-weight worsted wool. Grey on the darker side go with most colors and occasions, whether it is for a formal occasion or casual.
  • Trousers – Browns and Khaki colored trousers tend to be the safest colors. You can also go for matching trousers to go along with your dark grey blazer.
  • Shirts – A classic white shirt and one light blue shirt is a must to carry as it is a very relaxed color, simple but not dull. And if you need more, you can try out lighter shades of purple or shirts with subtle stripes.
  • Shoes – First priority is a pair of black leather oxfords, after you that taken care of you can opt for a dark brown or a tan colored pair of leather/ suede shoes. Browns and tans are very versatile colors which gives you the flexibility of wearing it in a formal or casual manner depending on the occasion.
  • Tie – Ties can get really tricky at times. Do not opt for ties with the same print or pattern of your shirt. The optical illusion it creates causes the human eye to find it unattractive.
  • Pocket Square – Easiest way to pick out the right pocket square for your attire is to take the secondary color of your tie/shirt as the primary color of the pocket square. If that gets too confusing, then you can just opt for a white one to avoid overthinking it.
  • Belts – A black belt which is not too thick with a simple buckle is best choice.
  • Socks – Match your socks with the color of the trousers you’re planning to wear. Remember, white socks are a no-no in formal wear, unless you are planning to be funky.

 Business Packing List for Men

Type and color of business attire for women:

  • Suits – If you’re planning to take a tailored pant suit or a skirt suit, it’s always better to opt for the basic colors (black, grey or blue).
  • Bottoms – It’s always a good idea to carry one or two basic colored bottoms whether it is a skirt or pants. That way you will not have to carry too many shirts/ blouses and shoes to match with your bottoms as colors like black, blue and grey go with most colors.
  • Blouses & Tops – Choose solids of lighter shades or you can even opt for some printed ones but make sure that the prints or the patterns are subtle and not too loud.
  • Underwear – Make sure to take a few skin colored underwear as they are the best ones to avoid any see through mishaps. Another important thing to take care of is to ensure that the lining of your underwear isn’t prominent through your clothes.

How might Brexit affect the visa free travel and status for British Passport holders?

August 30, 2017 Posted by Steve Williams under UK Passport
No Comments

The decision taken by the British People in the EU Referendum to formally leave the EU has ushered in a time of huge uncertainty. Not only for British citizens themselves but also for the 2.9 EU Nationals currently living in Britain and indeed for the 1.2 million UK nationals who live in neighbouring EU countries. This article will aim to cut through the conjecture, hysteria and in some cases lies to determine just what Brexit means for the power of the British passport.

The campaign was a ruthless and at times toxic affair with both sides accusing the other of lies, false accusations and promoting hysteria. The British Passport was used as a political football with estimates, guesstimates, and plain old wild predictions playing a part in creating widespread uncertainty about what Brexit truly means for the future of the British Passport.

As it stands (at the time of writing this article, August 2016) the post Brexit British passport looks and feels exactly like the pre Brexit British passport. Article 50 has not yet been invoked and new PM Theresa May is currently touring Europe in an attempt to gauge the atmosphere and feelings towards Brexit Britain before attempting to secure the best divorce deal.

This article has used a number of independent sources to further understand the power and quality of the British Passport. The Passport Index ranks all passports based on their ‘total visa-free score’. Basically all the countries one can enter without a visa or with a visa on arrival. Germany and Sweden are currently ranked at #1 with the United Kingdom passport in 2nd place with a score of 157 countries.

The EU compromises 28 member states with freedom of movement available between all member states. In the wake of Brexit however it is yet unclear whether Britain will forfeit this freedom of movement agreement. Much is yet to be discussed but if the terms of Brexit do include the revoking of this agreement the British passport could fall as far as 23rd on the Passport Index, placing it joint with Barbados with a score of 130.

The Quality of Nationality Index looks at a range of factors to determine how valuable it is to be from a certain place. Pre Brexit Britain ranked in 11th place. The countries decision to leave the EU saw the post Brexit passport drop to 30th on the list. Freedom of movement and strong economic ties between its member states mean that all countries within the EU featured in the top 30.

Whilst the terms of any deal to leave the EU are yet unclear, one thing that is clear is that the uncertainty around Brexit has already ensured the British passport has lost some of its previous power. The lack of a clear plan for Brexit, both in time scale and terms and conditions of such a departure are already having a detrimental effect on how the British passport is perceived around the world.

Whether Britain looks to join with other Non-Eu European states by re-joining Efta or negotiate a deal where freedom of movement still exists only time will tell but as of the writing of this article (August 2016, 3 months after Brexit was confirmed) in answer to the title, it is fairly certain the power of the British passport has declined as a result of the EU Referendum.

Mistakes On The UK Passport Application Form – What To Do

August 22, 2017 Posted by Steve Williams under Same Day UK Passport, UK Passport
No Comments

Each year thousands of UK passport applications are rejected or delayed due to errors, mistakes and providing unsuitable documents. One small UK passport application form mistake can delay the process by up to 7 weeks.

A standard UK passport renewal should take 3 weeks with a First Adult passport application estimated at 6 weeks. These times should put into context how costly even the smallest mistake can prove out to be, especially for those hoping to receive a passport quickly in order to travel.

UK passport application mistakes

UK passport application mistakes

By nature the UK passport application forms can be time consuming, a little confusing and require thorough reading and understanding in order to complete correctly.

In order to help you through the process smoothly we have highlighted the most common minor mistakes that repeatedly cause major delays for those completing their passport application.

Although some of these points may seem simple and rather obvious, from our knowledge it is the more rudimental mistakes that time and time again lead to delays and rejections.

  • Signatures INSIDE the box – If any part of the signature is outside or even touching the line of the box then the application will be rejected.
  • BLACK ink – Applications in any other colored pen will be returned to you. Counter signatures must also be in black ink.
  • For those who are English, Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish you must put BRITISH as your nationality.
  • If a mistake is made, correction fluid must NOT be used. The mistake must be blocked out with black ink. A maximum of 3 character mistakes can be made on a single form. If a 4th mistake is made you will need to start a new form.
  • Grandparent details must be provided if your parents were born on or after 1st January 1983. This must include full names, date of birth, town and country of birth and relevant marriage dates.
  • Passport numbers for previous passports held by the applicant are asked for, this is referring to only UK passport numbers.
  • Photocopies and substitutes of any documents will not be accepted. ORIGINAL supporting documents only.
  • All photos must meet the regulations set out in the application form and must have been taken within the last month prior to the application.

Whilst the above guidelines, if followed correctly, should ensure your passport application to be successful, it is only natural that human error will at times lead to delayed or rejected applications. One sure way to ensure a successful passport application is to entrust the process to Rapid Passports.

As a specialised passport agency, they are authorised to submit applications on their clients’ behalf at Her Majesty’s Passport office without the need to book any appointments.

To avoid delays or rejection, your application is reviewed by an experienced and knowledgeable team and once all criteria’s have been checked and cleared, your application is sent for completion. Trusting your application to a dedicated and respected team can remove all the doubts and worry that inevitably comes with any passport application.

One UK passport application mistake is all it takes to ensure delay or even rejection, but Rapid Passports work to guarantee your application runs smoothly and without incident.

That’s not all, we have even prepared a travel guide which includes a downloadable essentials checklist for all the times when you have to travel for work on a short notice or otherwise.

That way, even if you are in a hurry, you will not miss out on carrying all the necessary items that you would need for the trip, whether it’s a tie or some travel documents. Moreover, we have included a separate list that would remind you to arrange for someone to feed your pet or water the plants while you are gone.

Most Common International Travel Scams and Solutions

It is not bad if a traveler had to picture this world in a positive way and perceive those he deals with as human and rational. However, there are always exceptions to any natural law or assumption, and that is why one has to consider the possibility of meeting the worst while are on his journey. For the reason, it proves a good idea to keep watch in order not to fall victim.

Some regular travelers have often grown a poached confidence. Always be on the watch when in unfamiliar places. A favorite novelist, Chinua Achebe, states that ‘Since man has learnt to shoot without missing, Aneke the bird has learnt to fly without perching’. The modern traveler must know that the rogue artists have skills and tricks that are still cooking.
